Workers housing in Kitimat, BC Canada
A vessel with full amenities to house and accommodate 600 workers during a Smelter rebuild was chartered by a Canadian client to alleviate the problem that a large influx of project workers created. The vessel left after mission completed in 14 months, leaving no local impact. Local press described the situation before the vessels arrival as follows: " Onshore, the signs are just as clear. The town’s two main hotels are booked to capacity, with some renovated units going for $275 a night.Three of the town’s four doctors have stopped accepting new patients, housing prices have jumped by more than 50 per cent in the past year, and the vacancy rate is close to zero.At the animal shelter, meeting rooms and even a washroom have been commandeered as shelter for dozens of cats and kittens that have arrived this spring, some dropped off by tearful owners who had to move after their rent increased."

A former ferry turned cruises provided some needed secure accommodation for relief workers after the devastating in Haiti. Safe and secure accommodations was scarce and the floating solution provided a much faster solution than any temporary work camp, in an area where the population needed every available secure housing still left after the devastation.
